The total for the week: 4 contests, 1-2nd place, 3-1st place.  We are not the smartest group of people but apparently trivia competition experience counts for something.  Beatles trivia last night wasn't the easiest. One fellow, playing by himself, had 114 points before the final question.  He knew 18 of the Beatles 21 US #1 hits. However he bet too many points on the final and missed it.  We took a guess, bet half our points and finished first by 2.5 points.  Final question:  Album sales, put them in order from highest to lowest - "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "The White Album", and "Abbey Road".

Disneyland monorail began operation in 1959.  Mary Poppins was nominated for an Academy Award. Hippophobia is the fear of horses. ( not sure who came up with that?)  The Appalachian Trail is 2175 miles long. The 22nd Amendment limits the terms of the President to 2. ( Libya could have used something like this)

Sitophobia is the fear of what?  In what decade of the 20th Century was the U.S. foreign-born population at its lowest?  Who is the all-time women's grand slam tennis singles titles winner? In what country is the 2nd highest dam in the world, the Rio Grande at 1,345 feet? What is the only show about a singing group that has won an Emmy award for best comedy?

Good Luck!

Came in 1st at Cobblestone.  Won the season by 40 points.  Final question:  Put these 3 2011 movies in order of box office gross, from highest to lowest - "Arthur", "Your Highness", "Priest".  We didn't get it correct, but we didn't wager any points anyway. Championship for $1000 is on November 12th at Padonia Station.

An earthworm has 5 hearts. General George Armstrong Custer was the youngest person to become a general at age 23. The "C" in J.C. Penney stands for "Cash".  Chrometophobia is the fear of money. (That could be a good thing). It takes the light from the sun, 8 minutes to reach the earth.( So if the sun turned off you wouldn't have much time to improve your tan)

Good luck!

Finally a win, with 102.5 points.  1 week left in the season,  at Cobblestone, we have a 40 point lead. Finally we should be able to go to the championship without going to the playoffs.

The tallest habitable building in Washington, DC, is the National Basilica at 329 feet. "Xanadu" by Olivia Newton-John made it to No. 8 in 1980.  Those ridges are called wales. John Stockton played with the Jazz. Buckingham Palace has 602 rooms.

What is the state flower of Alaska?  What is a spermologer? Who was the cover feature of the first People magazine in 1974? How many ridges are on a dime? What does the word "utopia" mean?

Its my birthday tomorrow!!

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

We finished 1st tonight and have a 40 point lead going into the final week.  Probably not gonna bet on final question next week.  How many episodes of  Beverly Hills 90210 were there?

It takes a snail 115 days to travel 1 mile.  Colonel Sanders was born in Indiana. Keraunaphobia is the fear of thunder. ( a lot of dogs have that). Back to regular trivia tomorrow night at Cobblestone.
And from last week:  17 years is the difference between George Thorogood, "Bad to the Bone"(1981) and Faith Hill, "Breathe"(1998).  "Words" is the other hit for Missing Persons. ( I guess "Destination Unknown" could be another hit, even though none of their songs made it into the Top 40)

Now for some new questions:

Within 10 days, how many days does it take a snail to travel 1 mile?  In what state was Colonel Sanders born?
What is keraunaphobia, the fear of?  How many holes on a chinese checkerboard?  What 2 men, who have nothing really to do with baseball, are in the Baseball Hall of Fame?

5 questions is a good start.  Not bad questions either, if I should say so myself.

Just a note on the current season of "The Amazing Race" - Always remember to exchange your money and, don't pay full price for anything if you don't really have to, especially taxi rides.

Only 2 weeks left in the regular season of Season 23 and we have a 35.5 point lead at our location.  If we hold on for these 2 weeks, we earn our free pass to the championship! We can do it team!

4th night I've had enough

It's a jinx. PuTangClan is bad luck.  Can't get that final question right. Forget the $500 bucks. We can't catch them now anyway.  Some good questions though.
What is the other hit song for the artist that sings " Walking in LA"?  Next week a lot more questions on various subjects.  Sorry this is late.  I was so disgusted over losing.
By the way, final question on the 4th night:  What is the difference in years between release of George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone" and Faith Hill's "Breathe"?
Also answers from previous nights - Company B released "Fascinated" in 1986,  Scott Weiland is lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Rob Halford is lead singer for Judas Priest ("Breaking The Law").
Glenn Frey, formerly of the Eagles, sang "You Belong to the City"
"Kids In America" was sung by Kim Wilde, whose other hit was "Keep Me Hangin' On". "Something So Strong" was sung by Crowded House, whose other hit was "Don't Dream It's Over".
A lot more to come!

3rd night didn't start out so well

Missed the whole first half of trivia tonight. Why?  Because of a flat tire.  In the dark, in the rain, 20 miles from home. Spare was flat, and besides, it couldn't be lowered from underneath the car because the cable is rusted.  Called Geico for roadside assistance. I'm covered to have it towed to the nearest Chevy dealer.  Only 12 miles away (in the opposite direction from home). I have to pay for any miles over 12.  Whatever.
23.5 points at trivia tonight. PuTangClan 97 points.  Oh well, might as well just work on making it to the Championship as a team.  Our team name: Premature Evacuation  We have a lead of 30 points at our location.  Tomorrow night - $100 cash game to the winner. All audio.
What was the other hit for the artist that sang:  "Kids In America"?  How about the other hit for the group that sang, "Something So Strong"?
I am gonna need trivia questions to post.  Any contributions?

Night #2 of weeklong competition for $500

So tonight wasn't as bad as last night.  52 points.  100 points total so far.  Pu Tang Clan has a 40 point lead over us after 2 nights.  Gonna go for broke tomorrow night and try to close the gap.  Next week I will start posting questions.  Try to answer them and let me know how you make out.  Be honest with your answers.
Solo artist who sang "You Belong to the City" and what group did the artist formerly belong to?
Trivia, "useless information supposed to drive my imagination".

1st night of the weeklong competition

How does Pu Tang Clan know all of those answers?  Out of a possible 80 points they get 66!!  We ended up with 48 points.  All music and all audio questions.  I've got to hand it to Brian, he comes up with some good questions.  What was that song by "Company B"?  Who is the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots?  The lead singer for Judas Priest?  We will try again tomorrow night @ Cobblestone. Gotta do better than 48 points, even though we finished in 5th place out of 11 teams.
