So, Fluffer Nutter, comes in 3rd out of 44 teams at the Showtime trivia Season 25 championship on 2/25.  We won $250. It was a great team accomplishment!  Season 26 starts next week.

Answers to female celebrity original names:

A.10  B.3  C.8  D.1  E.4  F.9  G.7  H.5  I.2  J.11 K.6

So how did you do with that one?

So how about some Oscars trivia?  I did watch the Academy Awards on Sunday and thought the whole show lacked a little pizzazz!  The memoriam section was way too laid back and did not pay proper tribute to those that have passed away in the last year.  Why couldn't they show clips of everyone so we could remember them as we knew them!  Huh, what's up? A DVR comes in real handy when you can skip the speeches and the commercials though.

Here is Oscar trivia:
In the following years, the best movie also won director and 1 other major categorie( actor, actress, sup. actor, sup. actress)(The other 3 categories going to other movies). I will give the year and winning director.  You name the movie and the other major category winner.

1.   1945, Billy Wilder                       2. 1974, Francis Ford Coppola
3. 1971,William Friedkin                  4.   1941, John Ford
5. 1970, Franklin Shaffner                6.  1980,Robert Redford
7.   2010, Tom Hooper                      8.  1984, Milos Forman
9. 1996, Anthony Minghella           10. 1964, George Cukor
11. 1947, Elia Kazan                       12. 1957, David Lean
13. 1999, Sam Mendes                    14. 2007,Joel & Ethan Coen
15. 1988, Barry Levinson                16. 1992, Clint Eastwood
17. 1950, Joseph L. Mankiewicz     18. 2001, Ron Howard
19. 1994, Robert Zemeckis             20.  1966, Fred Zinnemann
21. 1955, Delbert Mann                  22. 2011, Michel Hazanavicius

In fact, I believe that is all of the movies that won best picture, director and one other of the major categories. ( Remember that the year coincides with when the movie was released, even though the awards were given early the following year, meaning that the 2011 awards were just awarded last Sunday night.)

Good Luck!

Any suggestions for the trivia team name for Season 26?

Finished Season 25 at Cobblestone and we came in first for the season. Fluffr Nutr beat out Cobblestone Crawlers by 1 point.  We didn't do very well but there wasn't enough of a gap between our scores on the last night that the Crawlers had to get the final question correct to beat us and fortunately, of course, they anwered incorrectly. The championship is on Feb 25 at Padonia Station.  Tomorrow night we will make a try at coming in first at Frisco's.  We are in third place going into the final night of Season 25.  Only 15 points separate 1st and 4th place, so it's up for grabs. I know that we have already qualified for the championship but we are going to for broke.

Answers to male celebrity original names:
A.6  B.7  C.8  D.2  E.3  F.10  G.9  H.4  I.1  J.11  K.5

I know that it's been awhile since my last post.  Almost 2 months in fact.  Been playing a lot of trivia.
We are already in Week 6 of 7 in season 25.  At Cobblestone, we are in first place by 29.5 points. ( not a very large margin) .  At Frisco's we are in 3rd place, behind by 37 points. Can we do it?  We falter alot when we are in first place near the end. If you aren't in first when before the final then you have nothing to lose by going all out.

The answers to the last blog questions are:  The Grinch pole is 39 1/2 feet long.  Burl Ives supplies the voice of Sam the Snowman.  "Jingle All The Way" premiered in 1996.  The 3 Wise Men were Balthasar, Melchior and Jaspar.  And the shepherd boy says to the mighty king, "Do you know what I know?".

How about a little matching?  Here is a list of celebrities ( we'll do the guys first ) . Match the celebrity name with their original name.

A. Babyface                                                1.  Reginald Dwight
B. Moby                                                      2.  James Todd Smith
C. Jay-Z                                                      3.  Jeffrey Atkins
D. L.L.Cool J                                              4.  Marion Morrison
E. Ja Rule                                                    5.  Marshall Mathers
F. Tony Curtis                                             6.  Kenneth Edmonds
G. Meat Loaf                                               7.  Richard Melville Hall
H. John Wayne                                            8.  Shawn Carter
I.   Elton John                                              9.  Marvin Lee Aday
J.  Alice Cooper                                          10. Bernard Schwartz
K. Eminem                                                  11. Vincent Furnier

Good Luck?  I'll do the ladies next.

Sitophobia is the fear of food.  The U.S. foreign-born population was at its lowest in the 1970's. ( 4.7%)  Margaret Smith Court with 24 Grand Slam singles victories.  The Rio Grande Dam is in Argentina. "The Monkees" TV show won an Emmy in 1967 for Best Comedy.

All of these actors have played Ebenezer Scrooge in a movie.  The last 4 words of "A Christmas Carol" is "God bless us, everyone".  "Silent Night" was written in 1818 by Josef Mohr and Franz Gruber in . Ralphie's last name was Parker.  Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen play the 4 main characters in "White Christmas".

Short season championship tomorrow at Bellisomo's. $500 on the line.

How long is the pole that wouldn't be used to touch Mr. Grinch?  Who supplies the voice of Sam the Snowman  in the 1964 TV show, "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer"?  What year did the movie " Jingle All the Way" premiere?  What were the Wise Men's names? ( According to my Bible)  ?  What did the shepherd boy say to the mighty king in the song, "Do You Hear What I Hear"?

Yes it has been awhile since the last post.  Oh, the answers to last post's questions?  I will post them tomorrow.  Changed our team name to "Don't Open Til Xmas" for the short season, which we won at Cobblestone. The Championship is this Saturday.

What do the Patrick Stewart, Michael Caine, George C. Scott, Alistair Sims and Reginald Owen have in common?  What are the last 3 words of Charles Dickens' story, "A Christmas Carol"?  In what year was the song, "Silent Night" written?  In the movie, "A Christmas Story", what is Ralphie's last name?  Who play the 4 main characters in the movie, "White Christmas"?

The total for the week: 4 contests, 1-2nd place, 3-1st place.  We are not the smartest group of people but apparently trivia competition experience counts for something.  Beatles trivia last night wasn't the easiest. One fellow, playing by himself, had 114 points before the final question.  He knew 18 of the Beatles 21 US #1 hits. However he bet too many points on the final and missed it.  We took a guess, bet half our points and finished first by 2.5 points.  Final question:  Album sales, put them in order from highest to lowest - "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "The White Album", and "Abbey Road".

Disneyland monorail began operation in 1959.  Mary Poppins was nominated for an Academy Award. Hippophobia is the fear of horses. ( not sure who came up with that?)  The Appalachian Trail is 2175 miles long. The 22nd Amendment limits the terms of the President to 2. ( Libya could have used something like this)

Sitophobia is the fear of what?  In what decade of the 20th Century was the U.S. foreign-born population at its lowest?  Who is the all-time women's grand slam tennis singles titles winner? In what country is the 2nd highest dam in the world, the Rio Grande at 1,345 feet? What is the only show about a singing group that has won an Emmy award for best comedy?

Good Luck!

In what year did the monorail in Disneyland begin operation?  What film was Disney's only live action film to be nominated for an Academy Award?  What is hippophobia the fear of?  Within 200 miles, how long is the Appalachian Trail?  The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution puts a limit on what?
